Migraine Treatment

Migraines are sometimes referred to as the “invisible, chronic illness.” . Some people try to manage chronic head pain with OTC medication, ice packs and bed rest. While there is currently no cure for migraines, there is a safe, painless treatment that is offered at Collaborative Healthcare in Lexington that provides immediate relief from pain and discomfort.

Quick, Painless, Effective Migraine Treatment

At Collaborative Healthcare, we can help migraine patients experience immediate symptom reduction with a painless treatment called a headache block.

A headache block involves numbing the Sphenopalatine Ganglion. The Sphenopalatine Ganglion is a group of nerve cells that connects to the trigeminal nerve. Also, this is the main nerve involved in many headaches, including migraines and cluster headaches.

During this treatment, the doctor uses a small catheter to deliver a numbing agent to the Sphenopalatine Ganglion via the nostrils. Also, a small amount of Lidocaine is administered through each nostril. Then the catheter is removed, and the patient is allowed to rest for 15 to 20 minutes.

Is Migraine Treatment Right For Me?

Not every severe headache is a migraine, and not every migraine event requires immediate medical attention. So, you should seek migraine treatment, if:

  • You experience moderate to severe head pain with nausea and/or vomiting
  • Your pain is strong enough to miss work or stay in bed more than once per week
  • You are hyper-sensitive to light and sounds
  • Your are taking OTC medications for headaches two or more times per week
